What a Weekend!

First of all, sorry to everyone that What the NERF hasn't had an update at all over the most important weekend of the blog's life. This is due to the fact that I didn't want to pay $10.00 for the wifi at the resort.

Anyway, I will just start at the beginning of the weekend for this post (Friday's happenings)...

So Friday had finally come; The day of traveling and getting to Florida. It all started with some loud pop song blaring when my alarm went off at around 6:00AM in the morning. I showered, grabbed my bags, and went off top the airport with my Mom. We arrived in good time, but that didn't help the flight situation. When we got there, we were going to have the ticket counter workers print out our ticket, but our tickets had been canceled because the travel agent that NERF had hired failed to enter our ages into the system for Airtran. When then had to call NERF's flight travel agent and got everything worked out, but had to go onto the next flight to Orlando which wasn't leaving for another 3 hours. There was a lot of fun to be had in the airport (not), especially with no free wifi. Finally, after hours of playing Angry Birds, tapping my feet, and listening to tunes, the plane was here ( of course it was 10 minutes late). After we landed in Orlando, we had to traverse a huge airport to the Disney Magical Express... And boy was it magical... It was roughly a 35 minute bus ride to our resort, and I got there about 20 minutes before the rookie symposium was scheduled to begin (7:00PM). The symposium was where we met our teammates, got introduced to the blasters, and go to walk around on the new battle arena. My teammates were awesome and very open to ideas that I had, and they also knew the blasters well. The new arena was EPIC and much bigger then the old battle dome. After eating some pizza and making up my team name (Knightmare), we headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest.

Final preparations before flight!

As Tournament day draws closer and closer I can't be more excited. Last night I hardly got any sleep and now as I finish packing my bag I can't help but wonder who my teammates will be, what the arena will look like, and how fun Disney World will be. The flight down will be only 2 hours and I'm riding in the business class. When we get at the airport  in Orlando a Nerf team will be there awaiting our arrival to then shuttle us to the hotel. Tonight we found out who the teams are, and who we will competing against for $25,000. Updates soon. Bye now.

How I got accepted..

Some people were asking about what I did to get accepted into the NDTL, so here it is! About 4 months ago I was browsing around and noticed that "registration" for the upcoming NDTL was open. I figured that my chances were as good as anyone else. Also I'm 17 so it would be my last year, unless they would ever make another age group for oldies :P.

I read the terms and everything and basically you had to get lucky and get randomly picked, although some of being chose had to do with your application. I did have to fill out a survey/application and a bunch of information about myself, as well as a 250-500 word essay. In my essay I explained how I host Nerf Wars monthly at my house and have an average attendance of about 25 people (If anyone is near my area we'd happily welcome you to play with us!). I also threw in, "And I'm a beast with the Speedload 6" at the end of my essay, and that seemed to do the trick.

I had pretty much forgotten about even entering the "contest", although it would cross my mind here and there. One day about 2 weeks ago I received an email from Hasbro saying that I was a "potential finalist" for the NDTL. I then received a phone call the next week where I was asked if I could do a Skype interview the following Monday (this call was on Thursday). I obviously said sure and they scheduled me for 11:05AM on Monday morning (eastern time).

When Monday morning had finally rolled around, it was 11:10AM and still no Skype call. I was getting worried but then I received a Skype message that said "We will be contacting you at 11:35AM." 30 minutes late Nerf! This time they called my right at 11:35 and I answered the video call to Ryan McDonough getting his mic re-positioned by a tech guy.

He interviewed me with simple questions like what is my favorite blaster? Why I think I should go to the NDTL? Who would I tell first? After 3-4 minutes he said, "Ok well I have some news for you... And well, its hard to tell people these kind of things when you can see them and all but... YOU'RE GOING TO ORLANDO!"

After I calmed down from my joyous excitement, he told me that he would have someone contact me with all of the details and that he is excited to meet me in Orlando. :)

If you guys have anymore questions about what happened and how things when please ask and I'll try to reply quickly! Thanks for reading!

Vortex now @Target?... Or not..

I was doing my usual scouting for the new vortex blasters on the various large chain stores and found that now Target has the Nitron on their website. TRU did have it on theirs but it was taken off within a week or so, then re-posted as a Pre-Order... Even though it is on Target's site it says Out of Stock, which means, they probably haven't gotten any yet.

sadface? D:

I will still remain hopeful to find the Vortex blasters before 9.10.11...

Accepted into the NDTL!

Today at 11:35 A.M. (Eastern time), I was accepted into the NDTL (Nerf Dart Tag League) by Skype interview with Matt McDonough. I was obviously ecstatic when I was told about that I was going to Orlando to compete for $25,000. Who wouldn't be? I am also in the Atlantic region in case anywhere wanted to know. If you were accepted, what region are you in?
